About Me

Hi, I'm Ryan.

I started SongFrames in 2026 after a lifetime of listening to music and wondering why certain songs never leave us.

As a kid, I'd wear out CDs listening to my favorite songs over and over. As an adult, not much has changed.

Over the years, I realized that the greatest songwriters aren't just talented they each have a unique way of seeing the world and communicating that vision to us, the listeners.

Bob Dylan notices details that everyone else misses.

Gillian Welch writes songs that feel like they've always existed.

Tom Waits gives a voice the misfits and late-night dreamers.

Jeff Tweedy discovers extraordinary meaning in everyday life.

Each songwriter has a different frame through which they write.

That's where the name SongFrames comes from.

The goal isn't to copy your heroes. It's to borrow their perspective long enough to discover your own.

Every SongFrames course breaks down one legendary songwriter's approach into practical lessons you can apply to your own writing. Think of it as sitting beside some of the greatest songwriters of all time and asking, "How do you think about writing songs?"

When I'm not building SongFrames, I'm a school counselor in Washington, a husband, a father of three daughters, and a guitarist who's always chasing the next great song.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope SongFrames helps you hear (and write) music a little differently.
